The tarot card 'Death' is a card of rebirth and second chances. This particular rendition of death depicts my great grandmother Christina as the grim reaper. She was a Scottish immigrant and farm labourer who spent long hours in the fields and in charge of the financil side of the farm, despite being disabled from contracting polio in her youth. She was not a happy woman and her marriage was less than ideal, with a cruel and controlling husband and numerous responsibilities including farm work, bookkeeping, markets, domestic duties and teaching piano.
