The Tower in tarot is one of the most feared cards in the deck. It symbolises impending doom or even death. I relate this card to the experience of psychosis. This is a self portrait (before I transitioned to male) of my experiences with mental illness. The cracks in the mask reveal a sick and tired person beneath and the fern represents fragility. The words making up the hand are the constant monologue of criticism I used to hear in my head during the worse days of my illness.
